History
Cipanas Castle is one of the Presidency Castle, situated at the foot of Mount Gede in West Java, approximately 103 km from the capital Jakarta.
Built in 1742 by Governor General William Baron Gustaaf van Imhoff. The idea stems from the discovery of emerging development source temperature of 430 Celsius hot water containing substances belarang and can cure various diseases.
The area of the palace complex is 26 acres, of its total, up to now only about 8000m2 are used for building. The rest is pasture, garden ornamental plants, and perennials are arranged as a small forest. Based on the research in collaboration with the Botanical Garden Cibodas-LIPI, there is a collection of 1334 specimens of plants, 171 species, 132 genera and 61 tribes.
During the Dutch Government Palace Cipanas used to retreat the Governor-General of the
Netherlands, among others, William Baron Gustaaf Van Imhoff, Andreas Cornelis De Graaff, Bonafacius Cornelis De Jonge and Van Tjarda Starkenborgh-Stachouwer.
During the Japanese Government Palace Cipanas used to haven the Japanese authorities in order to travel from Jakarta Bandung or vice versa.
After the independence of Indonesia, officially the Palace Cipanas established as one of the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Indonesia and its function still be used as a resting place of President or Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia and his family.
Historic events
Although Cipanas Palace is basically a place to rest, but the palace was once also a place of historical events relating to political, economic, and between nations.
On December 13, 1965, the Palace Cipanas recorded events in the history of the Indonesian economy. The courtroom became the main building as a place to witness the trial of President Sukarno led the cabinet to determine changes in currency values of Rp. 1000, - to Rp. 1, - known by the term sanering.
Other activities related to the state occurred at the time of President Suharto, on April 17, 1993 on the initiative, the Palace has become a meeting place between the warring groups in the Philippines, namely between the Government of the Philippines with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) led by the Minister Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas.
On June 6, 2005, Cipanas Palace became the commemoration of World Environment Day, where President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono gave Adipura 2005 and Kalpataru to officials and community leaders who are considered successful in maintaining and save the environment. On this occasion, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to plant teak trees and white (Gmelina arborea).
